Why change the implants?

There are different and often very individual reasons why women consider changing their breast implants. Basically, however, they can be divided into medical necessities and aesthetic preferences. Both aspects require precise analysis and careful planning.

Medical necessity

A common medical indication is so-called capsular fibrosis, which can occur after a short time, but also after 10 years. A hardened connective tissue capsule forms around the implant, which can lead to symptoms such as pain or deformation. Rejection reactions of the body or damage to the implant, such as a rupture, can also make it necessary to replace the implant. Complaints such as hardening or pain may still be possible 5 or 10 years after breast surgery. In such cases, an implant change is not only advisable, but medically necessary.

Aesthetic reasons

Aesthetic reasons play a major role in many cases. Over the years, some women decide to adjust the size of their implants, either to make them larger or smaller. It can also be a question of optimizing the shape of the breast, which is often combined with a breast lift. Thanks to new technologies, such as the possibility of creating a new implant pocket, even more individualized solutions can be offered.

Durability

Some manufacturers of breast implants now offer a lifetime guarantee on the durability of their products. However, this does not apply to all implants; older generation implants in particular may need to be replaced over time. The Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices generally recommends having implants checked after around 10 to 15 years. The treatment

The implants are replaced using the fast recovery method and in most cases on an outpatient basis. Sometimes inpatient treatment with an overnight stay is necessary. During the procedure, not only can the implant be replaced, but the breast can also be lifted or the implant pocket reshaped if necessary. We use the latest techniques to achieve a safe and aesthetically pleasing result. The incision can be made over the existing surgical scar so that no additional scars result from the treatment.

The aftercare

Aftercare is an essential part of the healing process. Mild pain, such as a burning sensation on the nipples, may occur after the procedure, but this usually subsides after a short time. We will advise you in detail on how you should behave in the first few weeks after the operation and give you recommendations on when you can resume sports or your normal daily routine. As a rule, however, you should refrain from sporting activities, sauna and solarium for around 4 to 6 weeks.

The cost of an implant replacement can vary depending on the individual case. Factors such as the procedure or additional measures such as a breast lift influence the cost and therefore the price. Transparency is particularly important to us here. In principle, you can expect costs from €8,500*. You will receive a detailed breakdown and a specific quote in a personal consultation.

If necessary, (partial) cost coverage by the health insurance company can be applied for if the change is medically necessary, for example in the case of capsular fibrosis or a damaged implant.
