What is an eyelid lift?

An eyelid lift (medical term: blepharoplasty) is an aesthetic surgical procedure that aims to rejuvenate and tighten the eye area. Unlike eyelid lifting without surgery, excess skin, sagging tissue and – if necessary – excess fatty tissue are removed from the upper and/or lower eyelid.

The most common reasons for an eyelid lift are

Drooping eyelids on the upper eyelid that make the eyes look tired
Bags under the lower eyelid due to sagging skin or fat deposits
sagging skin that gives an aged appearance
in severe cases: Restriction of the field of vision due to drooping upper eyelids

Options for eyelid lifting in Frankfurt

We offer various methods to meet individual needs. Eyelid lifting enables the removal of excess skin, the correction of pronounced bags under the eyes and the treatment of drooping eyelids. Depending on the initial situation, the upper and lower eyelids can be treated individually or in combination.

Upper eyelid lift / drooping eyelid surgery

The upper eyelid lift is specifically aimed at drooping upper eyelids and drooping eyelids that give the face a tired look. During the procedure, sagging areas of skin are removed and, if necessary, excess fatty tissue is reduced. If necessary, small fat deposits located between the eye and surrounding tissue can be treated. If only skin tightening is required, the procedure is limited to the skin layers, while the fatty tissue remains untouched.

It is also possible to tighten the eyelid muscles to achieve an even more harmonious result. The incision is made in the natural fold of the upper eyelid so that no visible scars remain after healing.

Lower eyelid lift / lacrimal sac surgery

The lower eyelid lift is similar in procedure to upper eyelid correction, but is often somewhat more challenging due to the anatomical characteristics. Depending on the individual findings, we choose between two tried and tested approaches: the transconjunctival approach via the conjunctiva or the subciliary approach with a fine incision at the edge of the eyelid. The targeted removal of excess skin and connective tissue results in a smooth, rejuvenated lower eyelid contour.

When treating bags under the eyes and tightening the lower eyelid, only minimal scars occur, which are hidden in the natural crease of the eyelid or on the inside of the eyelid. After complete healing, these are practically imperceptible.

The treatment

The eyelid lift is usually performed on an outpatient basis and takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. Depending on the findings, it is performed under local anesthesia or twilight sleep. Excess skin, small pockets of fat or sagging tissue are precisely removed to create a fresh, open look. The incision is made in such a way that the scars are inconspicuous later on. The aim is always to achieve a natural-looking result that suits your individual facial anatomy.

The aftercare

Immediately after the procedure, the eye area is carefully cooled to reduce swelling and bruising. Sutures are usually removed after 7 days. After around 10-14 days, most patients are able to resume social activities, and sporting activities can be resumed after 2-3 weeks. For optimal healing, we recommend careful scar care and avoiding intensive sun exposure for the first few weeks. Our doctors will follow you closely throughout the entire aftercare phase so that you feel completely safe.
