How does a hair transplant work?

The preparation

The treatment

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and takes about 4-6 hours, depending on the extent of the treatment. The donor hair is shaved to a length of approx. 2-3 mm beforehand. The hair follicles are detached from the hair follicle and extracted from the scalp using a hollow needle. This method results in only tiny scars that are not visible to the naked eye, even with a short haircut.

How many grafts are harvested depends on the size of the area to be transplanted and the quality of the donor area. We determine the exact number as part of a comprehensive examination. After special preparation, the hair is then transplanted back into the scalp at the desired location. The natural direction of growth is always taken into account to avoid possible irregularities in subsequent hair growth.

The aftercare

Regular check-ups at our practice allow us to keep an eye on the success of the treatment. Careful aftercare is also crucial. It is advisable to sleep on your back for the first few nights and to cool the areas with the transplanted hair or, after filling in the front of the head, the forehead to avoid swelling. Hair styling should also be avoided during the initial period. You can wash your hair again after about 3 days.
In most cases, the transplanted hair initially falls out again. However, this is a completely natural reaction. The new hair grows back after a few weeks and then lasts a lifetime. The final result can be seen after around a year and is permanent.
