The CO2 laser creates microscopically fine, punctiform treatment zones. Aged skin is gently removed on the surface, while the heat in deeper layers leads to “remodeling” with new collagen formation. The preparation

To begin with, we take the time to precisely assess your skin condition in a personal consultation – including skin type, elasticity, previous treatments and any scarring or pigmentation history. We discuss any pre-existing conditions and define realistic treatment goals together. We also provide you with specific preparatory measures: Protect your skin from sunlight in the weeks before treatment and avoid visits to the solarium.

The treatment

After thorough cleansing and disinfection, we apply an anaesthetic cream, the application time of which is scheduled before the actual laser therapy; the treatment itself usually takes around 30 minutes and is well tolerated thanks to local anaesthesia. The skin is stimulated selectively with fractionated energy. The energy works in the upper layers of the skin, sets targeted heat impulses in the depths and triggers the formation of new collagen, which leads to visible tightening; an initial smoothing effect can often be seen immediately after the session.

The aftercare

Slight swelling, redness or fine bumps are normal and will subside after a few days. Cooling and consistent sun protection (SPF 50+) support the healing process. Sauna, solarium and direct sunlight should be avoided for 6 weeks.

Around two days later, the treated areas turn a light brownish color and the top layer peels off, allowing damaged areas to be removed in a controlled manner. Over the following 6 to 12 weeks, the skin builds up new collagen, the tightening increases and the overall skin texture becomes finer and more even.

Risks

What are the risks of treatment with the CO2 laser?

If the CO2 laser is used correctly, the treatment is considered low-risk. With Dr. Abuagela, you benefit from a great deal of experience and structured safety standards, meaning that serious complications are extremely rare. Typical, temporary reactions are slight redness and swelling; occasionally small bruises may occur. Depending on the intensity, you will often be able to socialize again after a few days once the top layer of skin has peeled off.

We rarely see prolonged redness, infections or herpes reactivation; pigment shifts can usually be avoided with consistent UV protection (SPF 50+). Through precise indication and structured aftercare, we minimize risks and accompany you closely through the healing phase.
