What does the laser do for stretch marks?

Striae are micro-fine “breaks” in the supporting tissue of the skin. They occur when the skin fibers are overloaded in depth – for example after growth spurts, pregnancy, weight fluctuations or intensive sporting activities. This is why they are referred to as stretch marks.

During laser treatment, microscopic injuries are caused in the tissue in a controlled manner, which stimulate collagen and elastin production. The aim of this is to replace the old, scarred skin with new, tightened tissue.

The lines become flatter, the edges softer, the skin tone more harmonious.

Fractional laser therapy is useful if you want to reduce the visible depth and width of your striae, soften the edges and harmonize the overall appearance of your skin. The preparation

In the initial consultation, we determine the cause of your stretch marks, check your skin type and elasticity. We discuss pre-existing conditions and define clear goals so that you know what is realistically achievable. You will also receive recommendations on pre-treatment care (consistent sun protection, no intensive peeling shortly before treatment) and information on the expected recovery time, tailored to your everyday life.

The treatment

After cleaning and disinfection, we apply an anesthetic cream. This is followed by several laser passes per area, the intensity of which we adjust to the depth of the striae, skin type and region (e.g. stomach, hips, thighs, chest). You will most likely feel a slight sensation of heat during the treatment, but this is not usually painful. The entire treatment takes around 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the area. Immediately afterwards, we soothe the skin with cooling and a protective care barrier; you can leave the practice again after a short time.

The aftercare

Redness and a slight feeling of tightness are common in the first few days. Gentle cleansing and skin care as well as consistent UV protection (SPF 50+) are crucial to avoid pigment shifts and promote beautiful results. Light sport is usually possible again after a few days; however, you should avoid intensive sweating, saunas and direct sunlight for 6 weeks. The texture gradually smoothes over a period of weeks; we plan follow-up sessions – if appropriate – at intervals of 4-8 weeks.

What are the risks of laser treatment for stretch marks?

With careful indication, laser therapy for stretch marks is generally very well tolerated. Temporary redness, slight swelling and a feeling of tightness may occur; small bruises or fine bruises rarely appear. Consistent sun protection minimizes the risk of pigment changes. We work with clear safety standards and accompany you closely through the healing phase – serious complications are very unusual in experienced hands.

How many sessions are needed to remove stretch marks?

Depending on the severity, we usually plan 2-4 sessions at intervals of around 4-8 weeks. In the case of very shallow striae, a single treatment can already bring a visible improvement.
