Many people no longer feel comfortable with a tattoo they have had done in the past: the design no longer matches their lifestyle, lines have run, colors have faded or a cover-up has failed. Especially on visible areas such as the forearm, neck or back of the hand, this can be stressful – in everyday life, at work or simply in your own feelings.

This is precisely where laser removal comes in and works on a color-specific basis. Light pulses are absorbed by the respective pigment and break down larger color particles into smaller fragments. Between sessions, the body gradually breaks down the dissolved particles so that the tattoo gradually becomes lighter – until it is largely removed.

Laser tattoo removal is useful if you want to get rid of a design completely or reliably lighten it for a planned cover-up. It is suitable for black and multi-colored tattoos on almost all parts of the body, provided the skin is stable and free of inflammation. Dark colors usually react best, while colorful tones often require several sessions and more patience. Treatment is also possible with permanent make-up, but we check the pigments used particularly carefully, as individual dyes can darken at first. It is important to consistently protect the skin from UV light to achieve good, even results.

The preparation

At the beginning, we record the size, location, age and color spectrum of the tattoo. The treatment

After cleaning and cooling, we select the appropriate wavelengths/settings for the respective colors. The session usually lasts 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the motif and the level of detail. A whitish coating (“frosting”) may appear directly during the pulses – a sign of the desired reaction. After the laser treatment, we cool again, apply a protective care product and explain the first steps to take at home. As a rule, you will be mobile again immediately afterwards.

The aftercare

In the first few days, redness, swelling and a feeling of tightness are normal; occasionally fine crusts form. Cooling and elevation (for extremities) support healing. Please do not scratch or remove crusts and protect the area from rubbing. Showering is permitted, swimming pool/sea, sauna and intensive sun should be avoided for 2-4 weeks; consistent UV protection (SPF 50+) is important. The skin needs 6-10 weeks until the next session, as pigment loss progresses during this time.

What are the risks of laser tattoo removal?

Common, temporary reactions are redness, swelling, punctiform bleeding, crusts or blisters; a feeling of tension or sunburn is possible. In case of insufficient UV protection, pigment shifts (light/dark coloration) may occur; in rare cases, texture changes or scarring may occur, especially with incorrect aftercare (e.g. scratching).

Certain permanent make-up colors with iron oxide/titanium dioxide can darken initially; we take this into account during planning. We minimize risks by adapting parameters, cooling, sterile technique and clear care instructions and accompany you closely through the regeneration process.

Does every tattoo go away completely?

What do I need to consider before and after tattoo removal?

Do not sunbathe before the appointment and keep the area clean for the treatment. Afterwards, cool, do not scratch, wear loose clothing and consistently use SPF 50+. Avoid swimming, sauna and direct sunlight for 2-4 weeks.

Can I just lighten for a cover up instead of complete tattoo removal?
